Zax Quzin works between those layers as a Hexseer: a private contractor sent where ordinary jobs turn into things that do not fit the official classifications.

A routine extermination leaves a human body inside a monster. A domestic nest hides something with too many teeth. An Alpha hunt drags an old Hexseer back into the field. A broken laundry robot leads upstairs to something its tenant was never meant to find. And sometimes the job is simply to protect a stranger long enough to get them out alive.
